The claim that unemployment is currently the highest in 40 years is contradicted by official labour force data. The most recent monthly bulletin shows a rate of 5.2%, while the government's parliamentary answer says the usual-status rate was 6.0% in 2017-18 and 3.2% in 2023-24. Since a higher rate was recorded several years ago, India is not at a 40-year peak now.
