Part of it is true, but the way it was said gives a wrong picture.

lithium ore inferred resource, GSI, J&K, 2026

    sansad.in

The Ministry of Mines told Parliament on 13 March 2023 that the Geological Survey of India (GSI) had estimated an inferred resource (G3) of 5.9 million tonnes of lithium ore in Salal-Haimna, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir. The same official record describes the find as lithium ore with an average grade of 583 ppm, not as 60 lakh tonnes of lithium.

    • The Ministry of Mines told Parliament that GSI estimated 5.9 million tonnes of lithium ore in Salal-Haimna, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir. [2][3]
    • The official record describes the find as lithium ore with an average grade of 583 ppm, not as pure lithium. [6]
    • The figure of 5.9 million tonnes is close to the claimed 60 lakh tonnes, but the official unit is lithium ore, not lithium. [2]

The number is roughly right: 5.9 million tonnes is about 59 lakh tonnes. But the Ministry of Mines and GSI consistently describe the find as lithium ore, not lithium. Calling it 60 lakh tonnes of lithium overstates what was found, because the ore contains lithium at an average grade of 583 ppm. The 'white gold' and 'new oil' labels are not in the official record.
