What they said and what is true
What they said. What is actually true.
Every statement here is compared with what official records say — court orders, government data, Parliament's answers. Not true means the record shows otherwise. Misleading means part of it is right but the picture it gives is wrong. Every check links to the documents so you can read them yourself.

What foreign leaders, world rankings and campaigns abroad say about India, set against the record. Where two governments disagree and nothing independent settles it, we say so.
A chain of documented events, not a verdict
How the 2026 NEET protest travelled abroad, and the claim that it was AAP-backed
She called the protests the true meaning of people power.
Greta Thunberg, Swedish activist, at a London rally organised by SFI UK, 26 July 2026
The medical entrance exam paper leaked in May 2026 and the exam was cancelled. A new youth group, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led protests in Delhi. Its founder and half its core committee used to be with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and AAP leaders visited the protest. BJP ministers say the CJP is an AAP project. No record we found shows AAP paying for or directing it. The London rally was organised by a different group, SFI UK.

A press freedom ranking puts India 157th of 180. The Government rejects it.
India ranks 157th of 180 countries for press freedom.
Reporters Without Borders, Paris-based press freedom group, 2026
The group ranked India 151st in 2025 and 157th in 2026. It points to attacks on journalists, a few large media owners and laws used against reporters. The Government told Parliament it does not accept the ranking because the sample is small and the method is unclear. No independent record settles which side is right.

A Swedish institute calls India an “electoral autocracy”. The Government calls the rating wrong.
India has been an “electoral autocracy” since 2017.
V-Dem Institute, Research institute at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, 2026
The institute has used this label for India since its 2021 report. Freedom House, a US group, rates India “partly free”. The Government calls these ratings wrong and points to free elections: 64.2 crore people voted in 2024. The ratings rest on experts' judgement, so no single record proves or disproves them.

Was India a “dead economy” when Donald Trump said so?
“They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care.”
Donald Trump, President of the United States, 31 July 2025
President Trump called the economies of India and Russia “dead”, a day after announcing a 25% tax on Indian goods. Official figures show India's economy grew 7.8% in April to June 2025 and 8.2% in July to September 2025. World Bank data put growth at 7.57% for 2025, the fastest among the world's largest economies.

Did India lose the May 2025 conflict with Pakistan?
“We have won the war but we want peace.”
Shehbaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan, 16 May 2025
Pakistan's Prime Minister said Pakistan won the four-day conflict. The record does not show that. India's foreign ministry says Pakistan's army called India's army to stop the firing. Pakistan's own ministers have said India hit its air bases, and satellite pictures studied by two US newspapers show most of the visible damage was in Pakistan. A Swiss military study found India had the upper hand in the air by 10 May, and also that India lost at least three aircraft on the first day. India has accepted that it lost some aircraft, without giving a number.

Did Donald Trump stop the India–Pakistan fighting by using trade?
“If you don't stop it, we're not going to do any trade.”
Donald Trump, President of the United States, 12 May 2025, and many times since
President Trump says the United States arranged the ceasefire and that he used trade to get it. India says the two armies agreed it directly and that trade never came up. Pakistan thanks Trump and backs his account. No public record from an independent source settles it.

The Global Hunger Index ranks India near the bottom. The Government disputes the method.
India ranks 102nd of 123 countries, a “serious” level of hunger.
Global Hunger Index, Yearly report by an Irish and a German aid group, 2025
The index placed India 111th of 125 in 2023, 105th of 127 in 2024 and 102nd of 123 in 2025. The Government says the index does not measure hunger properly and that its own count of children shows far less wasting (children too thin for their height). The publishers say they use the same United Nations data for every country. India's own national health survey and World Bank data both give a wasting figure close to the one the index uses. World Bank data also show extreme poverty falling sharply.
